It’s set in stone and there’s no point in sugar coating it–SOWO is dead, and new doors are being unlocked and opened to build the future for the next best euro event/gathering in the South East. We could analyze the factors as to why SOWO’s grave was dug out within the hills of beautiful Helen, Georgia, but instead we’ll eat the accusations, wash ‘em down with the facts, and appreciate the development and execution of an event that has brought thousands of enthusiasts happiness for the last nine years.
For most of us SOWO is a chance to take the week off from real life and experience remote southern beauty at it’s finest, and it happened to be in a location deemed perfect to flood with beautiful cars. Whether you’re shacked up with a bunch of people in one of the comfortable cabins outside the limits of Helen, or right down in the thick of it in the Heledorf, you’re surrounded by (mostly) other like minded enthusiasts to… well, simply have a good time. This year was nothing short of just that–a lot of fun, and I think it’s safe to say this year’s run was a proper one to close out with.
I was lucky enough to get down to SOWO for a second year with a top-notch crew, and I expected this year to be no different, if not better than last. To no surprise, it had surpassed 2014’s experience, and although I’m not a multi-year veteran who’s been in attendance since SOWO’s birth, I’m grateful I was present to experience the true outcome of such a phenomenal gathering one last time. It just happen to be the last.
It’s unfortunate that circumstances have developed to bring SOWO to relocate, but it’s also safe to say it can only get better. Besides, we’re not done with good ol’ Helen yet, regardless of what council boards and naysayers want to believe. We’ll continue to cherish the bavarian atmosphere and amazing mountain roads coursing through and around Helen, Georgia come May of 2016. What is on our minds, and likely yours, is what Matt Bounds and the rest of the team have up their sleeves for us. Your guess is as good as ours, and we’ll be looking for updates as they release.
